The Return of Ockham's Razor

September 2, 2013

A Note From Kris

Hello, and welcome back to our website. I know it has been laying dormant for a time while I figured out what I was doing.

Firstly, I want to ensure you that I am so pleased that you’re reading this letter, and secondly I want you to know that I am tremendously excited about presenting this new version of Ockham’s Razor to you.

I know it’s a bit strange to see a band disintegrate and then reappear with an entirely new set of musicians, save me. My voice is the same -- love it or hate it. The whistles are still there. The accordions are still there. I want you to know that when I started putting this band together, that I contacted many of the players of the various incarnations of OR. Everyone was just busy.

To that end, I believe that I’ve found some amazing musicians to help take the new sound in a new and thrilling direction. It’s like getting married. There’s something old, something new, something borrowed, something… well, my hair’s been blue a few times. I’m sure that counts.

I’d like to introduce you to the new line-up.

Kitty Steetle, who plays fiddle, is one of my oldest and dearest friends and it is truly a dream come true to play with her in the same band finally.

Daniel McManus, who plays bass and octave mandolin, is a great friend I made through playing music in the Pacific NW. I was always a fan of his, and now I’m a bandmate too.

Chris Rekalske, who was introduced to me through Danny, plays electric guitar. He has that rocking edge Ockham’s Razor’s always had and helps us to rock out and live in the moment.

Dan Lile, who plays drum kits. I say kits because seriously the man is a madman. If Judd was a creature who hits things, Dan is a mad scientist who demolishes things and lays it down in pure syncopation. It’s truly a beautiful thing.

Stokely, a man so cool he only needs one name. He plays hurdy gurdy, which is not only the most auto corrected word I’ve ever typed, but one of the coolest, eeriest instruments ever created. Stokely is an amazing musician who will totally capture you. I can’t wait to see him on stage.

Tommy Atwell IV who plays acoustic guitar, is another friend I made through playing music and every moment spent playing with him is a moment resplendent in its musicality. He spreads the butter on both sides of the toast.

Veronica Pullis, our youngest and most recent addition to the fold, plays mandolin and brings an intoxicating exuberance and excitement with her that it’s impossible to not get pulled along in her tornado.

And of course, throughout it all there is, and always has been Scott Ference, who basically does everything else. Even after building a website, he’s still tweaking it to make it more to my liking, because I am a slavedriver perfectionist.

In any case, it’s been two years since we played live under the moniker of Ockham’s Razor. I’m ready for it…

Are you?
